| Position Description: |
This position is responsible for providing technical support and expertise for the successful operation of Mediacom’s CLEC voice over IP switching components. This position will build, deploy and manage an ILEC interconnected tandem switching complex utilizing VoIP technologies. Additional duties required are: • Develop and maintain performance standards and best engineering practices ensuring the highest reliability of all network elements used by the new CLEC organization. • Manage initial design and evolution of Switch Architecture and Platforms, including VoIP Protocols and standards (e.g., SIP, MGCP, IMS). • Plan, with partners and suppliers, the evolution of the voice platform. • Manage the testing and rollout of new functionality for the voice platform. • Manage installation, configuration, testing and operational handover of the entire core VoIP call processing components including transport systems, access networks and PSTN networks. • Responsible for end-to-end implementation of the VoIP System from a call processing perspective, including verification that individual VoIP components are operating in accordance with their respective product specifications as well as testing of the VOIP System for operational readiness. • Establish and maintain procedures for dial plan implementation, including 411, 611, 911/E911, TCAP services (such as LNP and CNAM), operator and directory assistance services and CALEA configuration required to work with the PSTN. • Establish strong relationships with all Divisions in support of Voice Services. • Establish and maintain close relationship with the internal Operations organizations to coordinate the deployment of updates and changes to the production networks. • Establish relationships with partners and vendors of services, software and hardware to ensure production systems are operating according to specification.
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE: • 5 plus years of telecom engineering and design experience. Strong understanding of telecommunications networks and CLEC operations. • Well-developed understanding of telecom business, operational, and regulatory processes including Voice over IP (VoIP). • Demonstrated expertise with IP, Internet routing protocols, SONET and voice technologies (SS7/C7, SIP, ISDN). Strong familiarity with networking and switch equipment from Cisco, Siemens, Lucent, Nortel or other vendors. • Must have a broad based understanding of how CLEC’s operate in the telecom marketplace and well versed with engineering processes from a LEC/ILEC/CLEC standpoint. • Strong leadership, project management, and customer service skills in a decentralized and entrepreneurial environment. • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written. Ability to communicate effectively with various technical operations, management groups, and various LEC/ILEC/CLEC personnel. • Qualified candidates should have an engineering undergraduate degree or extensive telecom engineering experience.
